How can I not feel like a parent? My girl is 3 & half months old now. I devote my time & energy to bond & train her, cleaning up after her, etc etc… It was kinda hard to “Let Go” & lighten’ up when I bring her out.
I sent Bailey for her first grooming session on Saturday, I was very nervous! I didn’t know what to expect when she is being cornered by strange looking people, and they’re trying to comb her & hose her down! Is she gonna bite their fingers off? I cautioned the groomer & he said not to worry & leave Bailey with them. I passed the leash to the guys and she followed after a mild tugging… Oh Geee… I was forlorn! ;-(
They put her in a cage, surrounded by all the other doggies! She was fine until a pesky little Jack Russell started screeching! Man, I almost went deaf from the noise the tiny fella made! Bailey got irritated after awhile & barked back! What a show!
I came back to the Pet Shop to pick Bailey 20mins later, I made a beeline towards the Grooming section & saw Bailey cowering on the table, the 2 guys combing her. She looked so scared! Poor girl… When she stepped out, boy, she looked sleek & gleaming! I was sooooo Happy & thanked the guys profusely! Just then, the in-house Poodle & Shih Tzu started a vicious fight! Blood started to ooze… I paid & left quickly leaving my drinks there! Ha Ha… I didn’t want Bailey to pick up any bad influence, u see; I’m starting to act like an overprotective parent! …
I had dinner with Jacqueline later in the evening & talked about the Dog gathering organized by Dexter every Sunday morning at Central Park. Jacq wanted to go have a look, so I thought it would be nice to give Bailey some exposure… I made the preparation just like a mummy packing for her daughter’s first picnic outing; plastic bags, toys, boiled sausages, cold water and an extra leash, just in case… ;-)
Bailey loves car rides & she would snuggle her snout & place her paw on my left hands, so I have to drive single handed! She also has a habit of standing up and sniffing things like the air con & my steering…
When we got there, she started to go berserk and barked at everyone in sight! I was trying to calm her down but she barked non stop for almost 10mins! Passerby stared at me with bewildered, some were startled… It was embarrassing, really…. I called Dexter and apologized, I said “I’m here but I don’t know if I should come over! Bailey might go crazy and hurt other dogs..” He said not to worry and urged me to come over! I was like, uumm, oooohhkayy…
I was very very happy to finally meet Bravo, a 3 yr old GSD, and Boy! He’s gorgeous & HUGE ! He was very suspicious of Bailey but we introduced them slowly. Bravo gave a warning growl at Bailey when she got a bit too near & Sueann reprimanded him. I was very careful to keep a tight grip on Bailey… But Dexter just asked me to loosen up a little… How could i?? Arghh! When two tiny puppies came over to Bailey I was very very worried & ready to give her a correction should she decide to take a nip at the small pups! But GUESS WHAT! Bailey started to lick the puppies faces!! It was a very very cute sight to see! Dexter keep on assuring me she’ll be fine & told me Bailey is fine, can socialize alright. I can’t be 100% sure on that, I still held on to her leash…
As Sinchan(Husky ), Milo(Chow-Chow), Bravo started running free with the small pups (Keyshia & Tut Tut), Dexter nudged me, “Hey, come on, let Bailey loose, let her play lah!” I hesitated but I let go her leash eventually and she followed Sinchan happily, sniffing grass & annoying Keyshia by licking her face a bit too much! Ha Ha…. I was only wary when Bailey got a bit too close to Bravo.
All is good, Jacq came & played happily with all the dogs. Bailey chased her Mousey toy happily together with Keyshia, it was really fun to see! Bailey was nice to the pups and didn’t mind sharing water & her toys with all the other dogs. She was having such a good time running amok with Sinchan!
Everyone had a good laugh when I was squatting down patting Keyshia when suddenly Milo decided to cling on my back & started to hump me!!!! I laughed & laughed till tears came out. Everyone just teased Milo…
Things went a bit awkward when Milo tried to take Bravo’s squeaky toy, and he got a nip and loud growl, which startled everybody cos’ nobody was looking except Jacq! Poor Milo went crying! Really, I bet you’ve never heard a Chow-Chow cry & he did!! Bravo was reprimanded & sent to one corner… Later on, even Bailey was almost bit… She whimpered and I do hope she learns her lesson. Bravo really seemed to be in a bad mood that day…
It was almost 1pm and we all decided to go home… I found out that Kiwi Express in Hartamas is a pet-friendly place so me & Jacq decided to go down there to have our Brunch! The moment Bailey & me got out the car, she started barking again! At EVERY passing human & cars & Motorists. Jacq was already there & we had to sit outdoors, but it was ok. We had to scold Bailey a few times before she finally calmed down & lie down quietly. She did attempt a few times to go off in her sniffing spree… I hooked her leash round my foot! The other patrons just looked at us bewildered & curious… The staffs were very friendly & didn’t mind Bailey and stopped to admire her! U have no idea how glad I was! ;->
I had a fabulous Big Breakfast; scrambled eggs, sausages, turkey ham, beans & a very yummy egg toast! Bailey got few pieces of my turkey ham when she lies down quietly. All in all, she behaved herself alright! ;-)
Time to go home, we ran in the rain back to the car & when I got home my dad was so happy to see Bailey! (He thinks I sent Bailey for Obedience class!)
